Drawing accurately comes from good observation. Your students should observe the top square and then copy it in the square below it. Accuracy and consistency across this exercise is very important. This exercise is all about spatial awareness and positive/negative space. Students tend to draw the correct shape but often draw it at the wrong scale.
Before starting the exercise, reinforce to students that they need to draw it the same size. Students should use a ruler to measure out the points where the lines touch the box. This will give them a better idea of scale. It’s not a race. Some of the best drawings will be from students taking their time.
